giving to endowment

Endowment signifies permanence, predictability, flexibility and certainty: permanence in the form of resources secured and stewarded for the perpetual benefit of Chautauqua; predictability as the one financial resource in the annual budgeting exercise that can be known in advance of the conduct of the program; flexibility is gained to the degree that resources are not dedicated to a specific, narrowly defined application, and certainty in the case of intentionally specific applications of endowments (for facilities or scholarships, for example).

Program endowment support is critical to maintain and improve the presentation of visual art, symphony, dance, opera and theatre in order that these areas make the next logical gain in excellence.

Scholarship endowment must increase if Chautauqua is to remain competitive with other like programs throughout the country. Financial assistance is the crucial strand in attracting the best students in art, dance, music and theatre.

Program facilities for the arts, education and religion must be maintained and cared for in order to assure that our programs take place in facilities that promote programmatic quality.
