Six hundred thirty three funds comprise the Foundation's endowment. The donors of 76.7% of these funds have specified a use for the annual distribution to the Institution. The Foundation serves as a fiduciary on behalf of the donor to ensure that the donors intentions are respected. A full accounting of all the funds held by the Foundation is printed annually in the Foundation's annual report. Below is an overview of the number of funds by category and the payout of funds by category as listed in the annual report.

While currently spending approximately 6.0% of the market value each year, the Foundation seeks to reduce its spending to 5.5% of a three year average of the fair market value of the endowment on the first day of the fiscal year. The Foundation's spending is comprised of its fees for investment management, expenses for operating the Foundation (including staffing the development operation pursuant to its contract with the Institution), and its distribution to the Institution. In achieving its goal of reduced overall spending, the Foundation seeks to increase annually the amount it distributes to the Institution. Below is a look at the payout from endowment to the Institution over the last five years.
